The Department of Sanskrit exists effectively but silently, without raising hue and cry, being surrounded by other departments with more faculty and student strength. Sanskrit, being a classical subject and probably due to lesser demands in job markets, does not draw as many students as it used to have even a few decades earlier. Two UGC full time teacher and two SACT are improving the Department. B.A Hons and General degree course are available here. The department is carrying a rich tradition and legacy as it is one of the older departments of the college.
A teacher’s primary role is to teach and facilitate student’s learning. Taking this view, the department creates an atmosphere where teaching-learning becomes student centric. The teachers attend the students individually if he or she faces problem in studies. Along with the traditional form of lectures the department also provides e-learning support. The department arranges audio visual classes for the students for better transfer of learning processes. Regular video shows are arranged for the students in the department using its own projector and sound system.
Seminars: Students’ Seminar: The Department also organizes Students’ seminars from time to time, to encourage students of the Department to indulge in research activities related to their syllabus at the Undergraduate level. Extension Lectures: The Department organizes Extension lectures for students by inviting eminent personalities of both national and international repute.
