The Department of Economics was offered jointly with Political Science to the students of Intermediate Arts Course and when affiliation for B.A. came from the C.U., the combined department of Economics & Political Science was rejuvenated in 1955. However, two departments were segregated later on and Economics Honours began to be taught from 1966.The Department of Economics of any College ideally showcases the intellectual resources of the institution and our College is no exception. The Department of Economics surged ahead under the able leadership of a dedicated faculty. Two minor research projects funded by the University Grants Commission have already been completed and one project is ongoing.
Students are consider as important stakeholder in our department. The entire academic process of planning, delivery of curriculum and assessment is student centric. Various efforts are made to make learning more students centric by focusing on specific learning outcomes for all courses and making it more participatory and interactive. The student centric teaching is promoted by ensuring classroom environment to be learner-friendly and also we have the ITC facility in our department. The classroom environment is kept conducive to make learners feel free share their ideas and form a healthy discussion. Advance information is given about topics to be taught in the next class so that the students can come prepared for active discussion with teachers. Lectures, group discussions, seminars, field visits, lab facilities, induction programs, short-term project are used by the department to enhance skills. In addition, College library is a big part of our student’s centric learning method. The departmental library of select books has been established for quick and convenient reference materials.
Various workshops , seminars and talks are organised by the departments to help the students in enhancing their academic potential as well as choosing their career. Student seminars and field excursions organised by our department every year. Wall magazines are prepared by our students every year in different economic aspects after due consultation with the teachers that also enhance their capacity.
Bridge courses are conducted for the orientation of the students and to smoothen the transition of students from school to college level of education. The course will encompass the syllabus, the scope and basic topics of the subject needed to understand the subject.
Our department provide different kinds of facilities to enhance the capacity of student such as computer facilities , ICT facilities, etc. Seminar library within the Department also provides students by our department for the students to access the books instantly.
